Taking BANZEL

BANZEL formulations

BANZEL is available in 2 formulations. With the guidance of your doctor, you can choose what is right for your loved one. You can take BANZEL tablets, which are available in 2 strengths: 200 mg and 400 mg. Or you can choose to take BANZEL as an oral suspension. Remember, BANZEL is an add-on medicine. People with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) experiencing inadequate seizure control may have BANZEL added to their existing therapy.

Taking BANZEL tablets

BANZEL tablets are available in two strengths: 200 mg and 400 mg.

BANZEL tablets can be taken whole. If the whole tablet is difficult for your loved one to swallow, the tablets are scored so you can easily cut them in half. They can also be crushed. BANZEL tablets should be taken with food. Keep BANZEL tablets in a dry place. Protect them from moisture.

 

Taking BANZEL oral suspension

BANZEL oral suspension comes packaged with two 20-mL syringes

BANZEL oral suspension formulation is supplied as an orange-flavored liquid. It contains 40 mg/mL of the medication. BANZEL oral suspension contains carbohydrates. It does not contain lactose, gluten, or dyes. This formulation is an option for people who may prefer an oral suspension or have concerns about taking the medication in tablet form.

Before every administration, BANZEL oral suspension formulation should be shaken well. It should be taken with food. Be sure to replace the cap securely after opening. Keep BANZEL oral suspension in an upright position. Use BANZEL oral suspension within 90 days of first opening the bottle.

BANZEL should be given exactly as your healthcare provider tells you to. Here are some things to avoid while taking BANZEL:

  • Do not provide alcohol or give other medicines that may make your loved one sleepy or dizzy, until you talk to your healthcare provider. BANZEL taken with alcohol or medicines that cause sleepiness or dizziness may make sleepiness or dizziness worse
  • Do not allow driving or operation of heavy machinery, or other dangerous activities, until you know how BANZEL affects your loved one. BANZEL can slow thinking and motor skills
